Terms of service
The rules for using UnicornFork, and what you can expect from us. Last updated 27 September 2026.
1. About these terms
These terms are the agreement between you and Arne Vogel, Stettiner Str. 8, 27442 Gnarrenburg, Germany (hello@unicornfork.com), who runs UnicornFork at unicornfork.com. "We" and "us" mean Arne Vogel. By creating an account or using UnicornFork you agree to these terms. How we handle your data is in our privacy policy.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to use UnicornFork.
- You log in with your email address, so anyone who can read your email can log in as you. Keep your email account secure.
- Your public username, which other users see on prompts you share, mustn't pretend to be someone else or be offensive. We may remove one that is.
3. The service
UnicornFork is an AI chess coach: a large language model explains positions and games, and checks what it says with the Stockfish chess engine. The coach can still be wrong. Its answers are for learning chess; use your own judgment.
We keep improving UnicornFork, so features change, and some may go away. If a change significantly reduces what Pro includes, we'll tell you in advance, and you can cancel and get back what you paid for the time you can no longer use. We work to keep UnicornFork available, but can't promise it always will be, for example during maintenance.
UnicornFork loads games from lichess.org and chess.com, but isn't affiliated with either site. Their own terms apply to your use of them.
4. Fair play and acceptable use
Don't use UnicornFork for a game that is still being played, online or over the board, whether it's your game or someone else's. Analyse games once they're over. You also mustn't:
- break the law or other people's rights, including with prompts you share;
- try to get into other people's accounts, get around limits, or attack or overload the service;
- use bots or scripts to access UnicornFork, or resell access to it;
- write prompts that try to make the coach produce anything other than chess coaching.
If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account (section 9), and the refund guarantee no longer applies.
5. Your content and shared prompts
The prompts and questions you write stay yours. You allow us to store and process them to run UnicornFork, including sending them to the AI providers named in the privacy policy.
When you share a prompt, you give every UnicornFork user and us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide permission to use, copy and change it within UnicornFork. Other users can add it to their prompts and edit copies of it. We may feature it or build our built-in prompts on it, crediting your public username. Copies and prompts built on yours stay when you stop sharing or delete it. Only share prompts you have the right to share.
6. Our content
UnicornFork's site, code, design and built-in prompts belong to us. You may use the coach's answers freely for your own chess study. Stockfish is free software under the GNU General Public License v3; these terms don't limit your rights under that license.
7. Subscription and Payments
Pro subscriptions are processed through Paddle as our payment processor and reseller. By subscribing, you agree to:
- Pay all applicable fees and taxes
- Automatic renewal unless cancelled
- Paddle's Buyer Terms, which can be found at https://www.paddle.com/legal/invoiced-consumer-terms
- Our cancellation and refund policies as outlined below
When you receive your first invoice from Paddle, you will be asked to accept Paddle's Terms & Conditions as the reseller of our products. This is required for payment processing.
The prices are on the pricing page. You can cancel at any time: "Cancel subscription" at the bottom of every page, or "Manage subscription" on the plan page, takes you to Paddle. Pro then stays until the end of the period you've paid for, and isn't renewed. Deleting your account cancels Pro at once. If you're a consumer, you may also have a right of withdrawal, which Paddle's Buyer Terms describe.
8. Refund Policy
We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee for all new Pro subscriptions. If you are not satisfied with our service within the first 30 days of your initial subscription, you may request a full refund by contacting us at refund@unicornfork.com.
Refund eligibility requirements:
- Request must be made within 30 days of your initial subscription purchase
- Applies only to first-time subscribers
- Refunds for subscription renewals are not available
- Account must not have violated our terms of service
Approved refunds will be processed through Paddle and may take 5-10 business days to appear in your original payment method.
This guarantee comes on top of your rights under consumer law, which it doesn't limit.
9. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time. That cancels Pro at once; the rest of the paid period isn't refunded, except under the refund policy.
- We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms. Where we can, we'll warn you first and tell you why by email. A Pro subscription closed this way isn't refunded.
- We may close a free account at any time, telling you by email 30 days before.
- If we shut UnicornFork down, we'll tell you 30 days before and refund the Pro time you've paid for but can't use.
10. Liability
We're liable without limit for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, and where we've given a guarantee. For slight negligence, we're only liable if we breach an obligation that is essential to this agreement and that you may rely on, and only for the damage typical and foreseeable for an agreement like this one. Otherwise, we aren't liable.
11. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example for new features or new laws. We'll email you at least 30 days before a change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel your subscription or delete your account before then; if you keep using UnicornFork after that date, the new terms apply to you.
12. Law and disputes
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you're a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of that country's mandatory consumer laws. We're neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration board. If part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies.
